Building Bulletin 87 Guidelines for environmental design in schools
Publication Year
1997
Document Status
Withdrawn
Abstract
Includes separate sections on the various environmental factors and on energy (carbon dioxide) ratings but it encourages the designer to apply an holistic approach to the design. Acoustics, lighting, ventilation, heating and thermal performance of the building construction are all interrelated and cannot be thought of in isolation. In addition, energy conservation will have a major effect on most aspects of the environmental design. Schools and local authorities make their design decisions in the light of their statutory responsibilities and their own assessments of local priorities and resources. It is hoped that the advice given in this building bulletin will assist this process.
