Abstract
Intended to remind and inform designers and site supervisory staff of ways of avoiding some of the most troublesome defects which have beset Local Authority housing. This Defect Action Sheet covers walls and ceilings: remedying mould growth. Failures discussed include recurrent mould growth on walls and ceilings. Defects discussed include inadequate thermal insulation, ventilation, or both, in relation to heating and usage of the dwelling; thermal capacity of walls too great for use with intermittent heating; possibly also thermal insulation reduced by wetting from rain penetration, rising damp, leaking water services, or interstitial condensation; thermal insulation discontinuous.
