Abstract
Suggests methods of improving the sound insulation between adjoining dwellings, dealing with such cases as walls between semi-detached houses, terraced houses and flats, and floors in buildings that have been converted for multiple occupancy or where there has been a change of use. The need to consider fire resistance is mentioned. Improvement methods consist of adding an independent leaf to one side of the wall and constructing an independent ceiling or a floating floor. The digest gives an indication of the improvement in insulation likely to be achieved with each method.
