Abstract
Intended to remind and inform designers and site supervisory staff of ways of avoiding some of the most troublesome defects which have beset Local Authority housing. This Defect Action Sheet covers masonry separating walls: airborne sound insulation in new-build housing. Failures discussed include excessive airborne sound transmission between adjacent dwellings. Defects discussed include unacceptable airborne sound paths through or around separating walls; and insufficient mass of separating and flanking walls.
