Abstract
Explains how variation in the cross-sectional dimensions of timber can greatly affect the accuracy of machine stress grading, and why as a result, all timber graded under the BSI Kitemark quality assurance scheme must conform to the tolerance limits specified in BS 4471-1:1978.
