Abstract
Noise from neighbours is a widespread cause of complaints from occupants of houses that have been converted into flats. Problems arise when timber floors become party floors and little or nothing has been done to improve the sound insulation. However it is not always sufficient to improve the floor in isolation because the sound insulation may be limited by flanking transmission along the walls. Solutions for this problem, and advice based on field trails on various options which can be used in different circumstances, are described in this Information Paper.
