Abstract
The 1986 Model Water Bylaws permit, for the first time in the United Kingdom, the use of mains-fed hot water storage systems, over 15 litres capacity, without a vent. The Building Regulations 1985 state the safety requirements for these systems. This Information Paper summarises the differences between vented and unvented systems, and explains the need for safety devices and controls in the absence of an open vent.
