Abstract
For rehabilitation operations this guide gives advice on typical site procedures which may need to be followed to achieve stable, water proof chimneys. Work on chimneys may be complex and it is important to establish the condition of the whole chimney system before embarking on extensive repair or rebuilding. If examination has revealed significant problems, in particular any insurmountable deficiencies related to smoke leakage or stability, a total rebuild of the stack or decommissioning may be necessary. Structural advice should be obtained where major removal/rebuilding works are planned for chimneys which buttress adjoining walls.
