Report R 146 Design and construction of joints in concrete structures
Publication Year
1995
Document Status
Current
Abstract
Gives advice on the provision, specification, and construction of joints in new in-situ concrete construction. It covers both movement joints, which are intended to relieve potentially damaging stresses or strains, and construction joints, which are necessitated by practical limitations on the amount of concrete that can be poured, compacted, and finished in one operation. Design considerations are reviewed, and guidance is provided on design and construction issues associated with joints. Of particular importance are the successful exclusion of moisture where necessary; the filling and sealing of joints; and the preparation of construction joint surfaces to ensure satisfactory performance.
