Publication Year
1980
Document Status

Abstract
Describes the problems and damage which may occur during the manufacture, transportation, driving and extension of three basic preformed displacement pile types: steel, precast concrete, and driven cast-in-place concrete. Problems of noise and vibration produced during pile installation are briefly outlined. Other difficulties may result because of the ground conditions, and the deleterious effects of the displacement of the soil as a result of pile driving are discussed. The effects of corrosion and special difficulties encountered in maritime conditions, including timber piling, are outlined. Remedial and preventative measures are suggested, and areas for further research identified.
