Abstract
The National Concrete Frame Specification is written in three parts: Part 1: Standard specification. Part 2: Project specification. Part 3: Guidance notes. Part 1 provides standard clauses on materials, workmanship and construction and aims to provide a specification which will produce consistent and competently constructed reinforced concrete throughout the industry. It identifies what can be classed as normal concrete construction. Part 2 provides information specific to the project. It also records, by exception, any amendments to Part 1 considered necessary by the designer for satisfactory performance of the frame. The pro-forma acts as an aide memoire to the disclosure of relevant information for most types of project. Only Part 2 needs to be incorporated into tender documents or the contract for construction because it refers explicitly to Part 1 as its base document. Part 3 is a companion document to Part 1 and Part 2 and gives background information together with explanations of why certain clauses have been adopted.
