Abstract
Examines some of the problems of conserving or restoring derelict industrial buildings as monuments. Influential factors include: scaling up from domestic to large industrial buildings, unstable ground conditions, poor drainage and the effects of climate on unoccupied buildings. Case studies include Blists Hill Blast Furnaces, Bedlam Furnaces and Museum of Iron, all in Ironbridge Gorge.
