Abstract
Providing safe and appropriate temporary access for workers and supervisors is an important part of construction site management. There are many alternative ways in which this access can be provided and all those involved need to be able to make informed decisions based on many factors, including the nature of the work, economic considerations, health and safety requirements. This book explains good practice and legislative requirements for three fundamental stages: analysing the problem and selecting the most appropriate form of access; understanding the characteristics of the chosen access method in more detail; checking and maintaining the installed access equipment. Diagrams, tables, checklists, summaries of good practice and warnings of practices to be avoided are used to keep the text to a minimum. Each subject concludes with a summary of references including Regulations, Standards, health and safety guidance notes and other published texts.
