Abstract
In the 21st Century there will be an increasing demand for high performance building services, providing better energy efficiency as well as being robust, user friendly and providing an excellent indoor environment. In order to achieve these aims, conventional building services will have to advance and incorporate new technologies. Some of the new technologies that are needed will come from areas outside building services, such as defence and aerospace research, as well as from collaborative research projects.
