Abstract
Of interest to construction product manufacturers and materials producers, and designers, contractors and other project team members involved in specifying and using products and materials. While the internet, as a business-to-business tool, could become the key to information transactions throughout the construction process (inception, design, specification, tendering, construction, operation and maintenance), this case study focuses on the web’s role in delivering product information to all relevant professionals. It uses examples of companies that use the internet to distribute technical information about their products. It also looks at some portal sites, designed to create a ‘one-stop shop’ for product information, and covers the development of product models, that store more extensive information accessible by all software tools and enabling on-line transactions.
