Abstract
The aim of the Small Pools Project was to design and build a prototype small swimming pool and upgrade an existing school pool to a minimum but acceptable standard of specification that would cater for local community needs and provide a good standard of safety and user comfort. The two pools were also designed to be cost effective in terms of both capital and revenue expenditure. This report contains the results of two years' intensive monitoring of both pools. It includes information on design, building costs, management, visitor characteristics and financial performance of the two pools, including the results of regular visitor surveys.
