Abstract
The use of ammonia for HVAC systems is receiving renewed interest. Ammonia secondary systems that circulate chilled water or other secondary refrigerant are a viable alternative to halo-carbon systems, although ammonia is inappropriate for direct refrigeration. Ammonia packaged chilling units are available for HVAC applications. As with the installation of any air-conditioning unit, all applicable codes, standards, and insurance requirements must be followed.
