Abstract
Concerns machines that make small, fairly uniform pieces of ice, such as ice flakes or ice cubes, up to approximately 2 ounces in mass. These units usually include a bin or ice storage facility and are arranged and controlled to maintain a certain stated amount of product in storage. Unit capacities range from production rates of 15 lb/24 h to several tons a day. Addresses commercial-size automatic ice makers, their construction, operation, and application. Specifically omitted are ice makers used in domestic refrigerators (covered in Chapter 49), large plant units requiring trained personnel (covered in Chapter 33), and ice machines used for thermal storage.
