Abstract
Many industrial buildings require large quantities of energy, both in manufacturing and in the maintenance of building environmental conditions. Energy can be saved by the proper use of insulation, ventilation, and solar energy and by the recovery of waste heat and cooling. For worker efficiency, the environment should be comfortable, minimise fatigue, facilitate communication, and not be harmful to health. Equipment should control temperature and humidity or provide spot cooling to prevent heat stress, have low noise levels, and control health-threatening fumes.
