Abstract
City Hall, headquarters of the Greater London Authority (GLA), South Bank, London, England. The building's floors overhang each other, giving the whole structure the appearance of tilting over. A circulation ramp spirals through the atrium space. The building benefits from low energy, daylighting, natural ventilation, solar protection. Photovoltaic panels may be fitted in the future. Includes descriptions of the facade engineering; structure; environmental engineering; independent environmental appraisal. Working details of: an inclined facade of triple-glazed and insulated panels. Architect: Foster & Partners. Structural, M&E, traffic, fire, acoustic and facade engineering: Arup.
