Abstract
Filter drains are often installed in order to facilitate rapid removal of water from the road surface or to prevent water flowing onto the road surface. In locations where vehicles wander off the carriageway onto the drain material, stones can be easily displaced onto the road carriageway causing a potential accident risk. Shows that binder bound, rubber materials (shredded scrap tyres) have a role to play in the highway construction industry in terms of conserving aggregate stocks, and minimising a potential hazard for the road user.
