Abstract
Aspects of the environmental impact of roads in sensitive upland areas are covered which can also be applied to non-trunk roads. Details are given for good design practice on quality and safety. Characteristics for different types of upland areas, valleys, open land and slate areas are given. Recommended standards, design details including boundary features, walls, rock character and profiling are discussed with examples of problems.
