Abstract
Desk study commissioned by the BRE as part of 'Task 2' of the 'Open Framework' project (DTLR/ODPM), for the implementation of Eurocode 2 for the design of concrete structures in the UK. Its purpose was to prepare and compare parallel designs of a typical reinforced concrete framed structure to EC2 and BS 8110, in order to assess the differences in terms of economy of construction and design process. It is hoped that this will provide part of the calibration data required to assist the committee preparing the UK National Annex to EC2. Covers the following sections: Design calculations to Eurocode 2, Design calculations to BS 8110, Reinforcement drawings for a typical floor, and Materials quantities and construction costs.
