Engineers File Note 1 Post tensioned brickwork at Rushden Fire Station
Publication Year
1986
Document Status
Current
Abstract
The cellular arrangement of walls and their interaction with the floors and roof provide stability in masonry buildings. At Rushden the appliance room was effectively a "tunnel" and would usually be a brick clad portal frame. By post tensioning just one wall, a cheaper masonry solution was provided. This concept can be applied to many building types.
