Abstract
The handbook contains extracts from those standards contained in the December 2000 version of the NRA Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (NRA DMRB), that relate to the geometric design of roads. Based upon standard NRA TD 42/95 with NRA addendum, which defines the main types of major/minor priority junction that can be used on new and improved national roads. Annex 2, based upon TD 42/00 relates to the design of channelising islands.

The National Roads Authority's (NRA) primary function, under the Roads Act 1993, was to secure the provision of a safe and efficient network of National roads. They were responsible for the planning and supervision of construction and maintenance, publishing the NRA DMRB and NRA MCDRW. In 2016 the NRA merged with the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) to form a new organisation, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
