Abstract
Presents the main findings of investigations which comprised: measurements of binder-aggregate bond strength through bonding energy measurements; the use of advanced instrumental techniques to study aggregate surface chemistry and to measure aggregate surface composition; sorption studies on aggregate surfaces using model compounds representing specific bitumen constituents and bitumen fractions; and mechanical strength tests to compare the effectiveness of measures to improve resistance to stripping.
