Abstract
Requirements are given for the strengthening of bridge supports with fibre reinforced polymers (FRP). Information is given on material specification and installation, design rules, guidance on the use of materials and some design charts for circular columns.

The National Roads Authority's (NRA) primary function, under the Roads Act 1993, was to secure the provision of a safe and efficient network of National roads. They were responsible for the planning and supervision of construction and maintenance, publishing the NRA DMRB and NRA MCDRW.
