Abstract
Gives the design objectives for planning good quality lighting on motorway trunk roads with road safety at night the main consideration. Applies to all carriageway widths including 4 lanes. Initial consideration of options for the modes and arrangements of lighting to be used are confirmed, modified or rejected during the design stage, since the choice depends on various environmental, safety, geometric and operating constraints and the accuracy of first assumptions.
