Abstract

Standard requirements for construction, installation and procurement of buried concrete box and portal frame structures. Advice is given for the design of precast and cast in-situ construction up to 15m long from abutment to abutment and with up to 11m of fill above the roof slab.

Superseded by NRA BD 31/14 DMRB 3.5.8 which includes Annex A NRA addendum to BD 31/01, and Annex B BD 31/01 the design of buried concrete box and portal frame structures. NRA DMRB 2.2.12 Supersedes - BD 31/87 and SB 3/88.

The National Roads Authority's (NRA) primary function, under the Roads Act 1993, was to secure the provision of a safe and efficient network of National roads. They were responsible for the planning and supervision of construction and maintenance, publishing the NRA DMRB and NRA MCDRW. In 2016 the NRA merged with the Railway Procurement Agency (RPA) to form a new organisation, Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).
