Abstract
Provides guidance on the facilities required for isolating patients on acute general wards. It has two aims: to set a standard for new-build facilities and to provide trusts wishing to convert existing accommodation with simple design options that can be implemented relatively quickly and cost-effectively.
Document History
Please note: At the time of publication the guidance in this HBN was based on a theoretical design. This design has now been tested and the results are being considered by the Department of Health's Isolation Group. Early indications suggest that, in some circumstances, a by-pass ventilation valve between the lobby and en-suite bathroom will be required. The HBN will be updated to reflect this in due course. A set of operational requirements to support the design will also be published.
