Abstract
Provides practical and legal advice for practising building professionals and contractors, drawing from an understanding of the causes of failures, guidance on their prevention, diagnosis and cure. Addresses related matters of dispute resolution and how to obtain, prepare and present evidence under current procedural rules. Express and implied duties are defined and scope for error examined at each RIBA work stage. Frequency and distribution of faults are reviewed with guidance on materials, methods of investigation and preparing technical and forensic reports. Damage, loss, remedy, insurance and limits to liability are also discussed.
