Abstract
Aims to provide (through a free-standing government direction issued to local planning authorities in England) greater clarity on the type and nature of planning applications for inappropriate development in the green belt that should be referred to the Secretary of State. This should help to achieve a more consistent approach across England in the way these types of applications are handled, with the ultimate objective of ensuring that planning policies for protecting the green belt from harmful, inappropriate development are effectively and fairly applied.
