Abstract
Sets out a framework for the assessment of soundness at the independent examination to help people understand how that process will be carried out by Inspectors, and ensure a clear and workable approach to assessing soundness. It is aimed at all those involved in preparing LDPs and seeking to participate in the examination process.

The Planning Inspectorate Wales division dealt with planning appeals, national infrastructure planning applications, examinations of local plans and other planning-related and specialist casework in Wales. Its functions were taken over by the Welsh Government in October 2021 and it is now known as Planning and Environment Decisions Wales (PEDW).
