Abstract

Discusses facade systems in terms of the primary material used: metal, glass, concrete, masonry, plastics and timber. With each the most common generic methods are described. Reviews each generic system from the perspective of primary design considerations (mainly its appearance resulting from the different approaches of fixing or material size). Sets out design solutions and how to work with the primary material. Suggests how systems and their essential assembly may be adapted for a specific design.
