Abstract
Assesses the development and use of industrialised and prefabricated housing technologies, particularly modular or volumetric systems, in Japan. Considers how these techniques relate to the organisation of site processes. Illustrates major differences between the Japanese and UK housing markets and that some large Japanese housing producers are investing successfully in new organisational strategies and technologies to produce high-quality housing. Identifies issues which may affect construction processes and demonstrates a basis for future exchanges of information.
