Abstract
Presents the results of the first phase of a project aimed at developing the measurement of cracking on local roads. Investigates the requirements for automated crack detection systems. Describes systems available worldwide, the systems tested as part of this research and the analysis procedure used by TRL. Discusses the results and findings of the assessment. Outlines the relative strengths and weaknesses of systems and presents options regarding direction and focus of the project’s second phase.
