Abstract
Introduces ALARP (as low as reasonably practicable) based risk ranking tools for existing parapets, advises on assessment of parapet and safety barrier supporting members on bridges and retaining walls and advises on substandard parapet connections and transitions.
Document History
Superseded by CS 461 Assessment and upgrading of in‐service parapets (formerly BA 37/92, IAN 97/07) (HE, 2020). Interim Advice Notes (IANs) are issued by the Highways Agency from time to time. They contain specific Guidance, which shall only be used in connection with works on motorways and trunk roads in England, subject to any specific implementation instructions contained within an IAN. Whilst IANs must be read in conjunction with the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB) and Manual of Contract Documents for Highway Works (MCHW) for the above works, and may incorporate amendments or additions to documents in these manuals, they are not part of the DMRB or MCHW. Details changes to DMRB BA 37/92. Supersedes BA 37/92 and HA IAN 72/06. Supplements and partially supersedes TD 19/06.
