Abstract
Gives the results of a study of the behaviour of a contiguous bored pile retaining wall during and immediately after its construction as part of an underpass at Rayleigh Weir in Essex. Relates the construction sequence involving pile installation followed by partial excavation in front of the wall. Details the instrumentation and process for monitoring measurement of earth and water pressures, and surface and sub-surface movement. Covers pile and prop instrumentation.
