Abstract
Looks at damping, which is a key factor in determining the dynamic response of a building and is a measure of its capacity to absorb vibrational energy. London's Millennium Bridge gave Michael Willford, Arup fellow and leader of Arup's Advanced Technology and Research Practice the opportunity to test the technology of multiple small fluid-viscous dampers, which Arup has now applied to the structural design of tall buildings.
