Abstract

Addresses the factors and conditions that influence the effectiveness of a frangible roof joint, considered from theoretical and practical standpoints. Intended to assist in detailed evaluation of new designs and existing tanks to predict if the tank will fail preferentially at the roof-to-shell connection or that it could fail at the shell-to-bottom connection. In the latter’s case, assists in identifying appropriate parameters for change.
