Abstract
Provides guidance for those responsible for the design of temporary traffic management arrangements which should be implemented to facilitate maintenance activities or in response to temporary situations. It contains advice relating to traffic safety measures, and the identity and location of the traffic signs needed to guide road users, including pedestrians, safely past obstructions in temporary situations.

Earlier editions of this document have superseded clauses 6.1, 6.2, 6.5 and figures 1 to 5 of TA 11/81, clauses 7.6 and 7.7 of TA 19/81. Other useful information on use of earlier editions of this document could be found in TA 63/97 and TD 49/03, and HA IAN 57/04 which superseded relevant guidance on the use of temporary speed limits at road works on high speed roads. This edition replaces 1991 edition which was amended in 2002. Superseded by Traffic safety measures and signs for road works and temporary situations. Part 1: design. 2nd edition (2009).
