Abstract
The aims of section 2 are to ensure that protection of life, sustainable development and the needs of fire and rescue services are considered during design and construction of buildings. The proposed changes extend these by providing separate standards for domestic and non-domestic dwellings, covering escape routes, choice of active and passive fire safety measures and guidance for fire detection and fire alarm systems, provision for flats and maisonettes and high rise domestic buildings, improved facilities for fire and rescue services and updated guidance for life safety fire suppression systems.
