Abstract
Summarises the proposed changes to both domestic and non-domestic technical handbooks covering the general changes, escape to exit door of dwelling, communication, fire and rescue service facilities, automatic life safety fire suppression systems, automatic fire suppression systems, escape routes in buildings containing flats or maisonettes, escape to exit from room or space of fire origin, escape from an exit from a room or space to a protected door, escape from a protected door to a place of safety, additional guidance for high rise domestic buildings and performance guidance covering escape from buildings.

The Scottish Building Standards Agency (SBSA) was disbanded on 1 April 2008 and its functions to administer the Building Standards system in Scotland were transferred back to the Scottish Government. The Building Standards Division includes Planning and Architectural Policy.
