Abstract
Intended for those without previous knowledge of the subject. Explains the cooling requirement and the need to minimise the cooling load. Describes cooling methods available, the operation of the vapour compression refrigeration cycle and of absorption cooling systems, and how to calculate the coefficient of performance. Addresses examining systems’ characteristics that impact on efficiency, specifying chilled water or DX systems, the function of the main components, energy saving requirements of Building Regulations, and refrigerant leak detection and servicing.
