Abstract
Examines the need for flexible working and looks at the rights of parents and carers. Summarises the different types of flexible working systems in operation and examines advantages and disadvantages of each, including: flexitime, job sharing, compressed working week, shiftwork, overtime, annual hours, term-time working, temporary working, fixed-term contracts, sub-contracting, zero hours contracts, flexible places of work, homeworking, mobile workers and hot-desking. Looks at developing policy and offers a case study. Appendices provide job suitability questionnaire, legal aspects, shift rota plan, types of shift systems, Working Time Regulations 1998 and the process of applying for flexible working.
