Details calculation methods including target emission rate (TER), building emission rate (BER) and asset rating and operational rating of buildings and ways of expressing the results.

Superseded by: Calculating the energy performance of buildings. Notice of approval of the methodology for expressing the energy performance of buildings in England and Wales (DCLG, 2014). Supersedes Notice of approval of the methodology of calculation of the energy performance of buildings in England and Wales (DCLG, 2007). A new notice of approval: Notice of approval of the methodologies of calculation of the energy performance of buildings to demonstrate compliance with the Building regulations 2010 in England and in respect of certain buildings in Wales, DCLG, 2014, came into effect 6 April 2014. Earlier versions of the methodologies (such as this document) may continue to be used in respect of building work started on site before 6 April 2014; or where a notification of building work has been given before 6 April 2014 and the building work is commenced on site before 6 April 2015.
