Abstract
Explains why EPCs have been introduced, what information will be shown on the certificate, how and where an EPC is obtained, the relationship between EPCs and building warrants, what to do with an EPC, asset ratings and cost-effective improvements, and when to update an EPC. Addresses replacement EPCs, home businesses, mixed purpose buildings, and additional information to supplement an EPC.

The Scottish Building Standards Agency (SBSA) was disbanded on 1 April 2008 and its functions to administer the Building Standards system in Scotland were transferred back to the Scottish Government. The Building Standards Division includes Planning and Architectural Policy.
