Abstract
Investigates the safety and convenience of cyclists at sites where carriageways have been narrowed by the use of central islands, pinch points and chicanes. Includes a literature review. Relates research methods and data obtained. Examines the relationships between vehicle flows, motor vehicle speeds, running lane widths, cyclists' route and driver behaviour and identifies the implications of particular designs. Considers the strengths and limitations of the various survey methods.
