Abstract

Gives the results of a major study which suggests that the central tenet of current planning in Ireland - the attainment of balanced regional development is mistaken. Unless this error is recognised and rapidly corrected, Ireland’s future economic, environmental and social prospects are likely to be seriously impaired. It appears that vision-led spatial planning and large scale urban design will be needed to rectify these problems.
