Abstract
Provides information on the passive design techniques that can be applied in masonry and concrete dwellings, with emphasis on there being little alteration and capital investment necessary to achieve energy efficiency. Considers the basic operating principle of thermal mass and the design requirements for its optimisation. Covers the implications of passive solar design, measurement of thermal mass, concrete options for structural elements, and the environmental impact of concrete and masonry housing.
